Just over a month away, the new EP release from folk singer-songwriter Chris Hornsby is one that should very much be looked forward to. A writer who doesn’t over complicate things but still draws a glut of emotion from his combinations of lyrics and acoustic chords, there’s a reason why this simplest of setups retains its effectiveness.
Over the course of this five track release (see the track above ‘Without You’ for an example) Hornsby takes the listener on various folky journeys and spins tales you can imagine holding court around a campfire.
With very occasional touches in addition to the trusty guitar and vocal (some percussion, a cajon, harmonica), Chris Hornsby finds moments of colour that add plenty to the EP as a whole. But when these moments come along, they retain their effectiveness for their rarity. In between, it’s the simple joy of an acoustic six string and a gruff vocal that draw you in.
