Single review: Savvy – ‘Powerskills’ feat. Russell Lissack (Bloc Party) Joel Pott (Athlete)

Currently rising up the ranks of the British hip hop scene, Savvy is a producer, rapper and writer who has been around for a while, working hard to make a name for himself in the music industry. His reputation, which places him as one of the top urban acts in the UK at the moment, has been enough to attract a couple of high profile names for new single ‘Powerskills’.

Featuring the vocals of Joel Pott (Athlete) and a killer guitar line from Russel Lissack (Bloc Party), ‘Powerskills’ is a high energy track which sits over the top of a solid half time drum rhythm that really keeps the momentum up. Ultimately, this track is a tribute to what you can do with well constructed simplicity.

A simple looped beat, the repeated guitar and chord line, plus the verse/chorus-rap/vocal combination: it’s nothing we haven’t heard before, but this is a great example of how to combine these simple things to good effect.
